Preventative & Empowering
Cancer Genomics (CGx) Testing is transforming preventative medicine by implementing innovative technology to evaluate a patient’s hereditary risk for developing certain types of cancers through DNA sequencing.
According to the American Cancer Society, approximately 5% to 10% of all cancers are thought to be related to gene mutations that are hereditary.
Everyone has genetic mutations, however not all genetic mutations have harmful health effects. Some genetic mutations can be beneficial, neutral with no effect, or have uncertain health effects.
A positive CGx Test result does not indicate a patient has cancer or may develop cancer. It simply means the patient’s inherited risk is greater than most. Understanding risk empowers the physician and patient to develop a preventative wellness plan to potentially lower the patient’s risk for developing the identified cancer including earlier and more frequent cancer screenings. In addition to early detection screenings, effective preventative strategies can include, regular physician check-ups, avoiding tobacco products, skin protection to sun exposure, healthy diet, maintaining a healthy weight, regular physical activity, safe sex practices, regular immunizations including HPV and Hepatitis vaccines, and knowledge of complete family medical history.
